Practicing Deliberate Practice

“Deliberate Practice—Identifying and practicing the skills that will help you stop doing the wrong thing and start doing the right thing.”
Crucial Conversations

1. know what you want to put in place of the ‘wrong behaviour/habit’
2. create a microshaping plan
3. set up the antecendent environment to help achieve each step of the plan
4. stay at each step of the plan for long enough to make sure the learner has become consciously competent at that step. Don’t stay too long that moving on from that step is stressful
5. know the next steps in the plan so that if things progress faster than expected you know where the training plan is going
6. if the plan isn’t working, be prepared to change the plan
