A +R with That Click

Some notes on why we reinforce every time we click. I hope I can explain well what was said at the Training Thoughtfully Conference earlier this year….

A variable click:reinforce ratio leads to a spike in brain wave activity when the reinforcement does appear. This spike in activity leads to distraction for the learner.

With the 1-2-1 ratio of click:reinforcer means the brain wave activity is regular and this will increase activity in the SEEKER system.

The 1-2-1 ratio creates a preparation for the reinforcer, so it is expected (not a surprise). That way the reinforcer acts as a motivator rather than a distraction.
